Business (Commercial) Insurance

Business Insurance

The term “Business Insurance” is any type of insurance purchased to help cover the business against any type of risk. The most commonly used insurance for these measures will fall under being a form of “Liability Insurance”, and/or insurance from the “Business Owners Policy”. The second example, will bundle together various types of coverage to suit business needs, all while all being all under one specific policy. As companies are structured differently, their needs will vary greatly and therefore, so will their coverage.

  • Professional Liability Insurance: Also known as Professional Indemnity Insurance. This specific type of insurance covers specific “practitioners” (engineers, doctors, lawyers, accountants) from personal liability against a potential negligence claim from their client and/or patient. A common example is when a Doctor has Malpractice Insurance to protect themselves from such claims. Generally, any profession that needs to have this type of insurance will call it by their own specific name.
  • A different, but very important other type of Business Insurance is known as Directors and Officers Liability Insurance. This insurance is in place in order to protect any organization from the costs that were incurred as a result of any Director(s) and/or Officer(s) that has been brought to litigation because of any wrong doing for which they are liable. This may also be referred to as “D&O” Insurance.
  • Financial Loss Insurance: Will protect that company and/or the individual from any financial risk, and it may also be known as Business Interruption Insurance. Like the name implies, an “interruption” is a reason which a company is unable to perform business for a substantial amount of time. For example, a fire which had broken out in a clothing factory had destroyed the means to create fabrics and therefore the operation was temporarily shut down.
  • Travel Insurance: Is a form of insurance for any person(s) who travels abroad, which will help cover any medical expenses, loss of property, travel delays, personal liabilities, etc. This is a particularly important insurance to have for any individual/company which faces periodical business trips.
