Standard
home insurance policies will provide insurance
coverage for the damage to your house / aparment
caused by theft, fire, lightning, smoke, and ice
& snow. As a homeowner you could consider
home insurance policy that provides coverage for
liability claims, medical payments to third parties,
and legal costs if a lawsuit is brought against
you. If you have mortgage on your home, the mortgage
lenders require that you buy home insurance policy.
The 7 Standardized Home Owner Insurance Policies
- HO-1: A significantly limited policy of varying coverage. This policy is used only to cover specific items outlined within the policy itself. For example, valuable paintings or jewelry.
- HO-2: Also a limited policy. H0-2 covers specific portions of a home from damages. The circumstances/perils that are covered within this policy must be named specifically to receive compensation for the damage.
- HO-3: This specific policy covers the home, structure, contents, and any liability which is associated with the risk of daily use. This coverage also extends to any visitor(s) who is harmed by accident or otherwise, while on the premises. Covered aspects and limits of liability must be clearly stated within the policy itself to ensure proper coverage. This is the most commonly bought policy, and it also goes by the name “all risk” or “open perils” policy.
- HO-4: Or “Renters Insurance” is for people who wish to have coverage on a particular piece of property which they are renting. This policy can also cover liabilities from accidents which occur within the domicile, or up to 150ft of the domicile by guests or passer byes. This specific type of insurance is to cover certain aspects that may not already be covered under the policy written for the apartment building or complex.
- HO-5: Similar in nature to H0-3, this policy covers the house, home owner, possessions, visitors or passer byes, but this specific policy covers a wider range and depth of potential losses and incidents.
- HO-6: Or “Condominium Insurance” is supplemental home owners insurance for owners of condominiums. This coverage is to insure the part of the building that is actually owned by the individual as well as the property therein. It also typically covers liability for residents and guests as well as personal property. Depending on certain factors, this liability can cover accidents up to 150 ft. from the insured property. The Condominium Association will have specific “blanket coverage” for the complex, however it is important to know what exactly that will cover. Looking at the Associations By-Laws will state what the required total insurance on your dwelling must be.
- HO-7: A.K.A “Older Home Insurance”, this particular coverage insures homes which may have a higher replacement than the market value, be able to pay the lower market value rate.
